Craftsman approach:
I wanted to approach mycelium like Japanese craftsmen I learned from approach their materials: by simply trying to magnify the natural properties of its matter.

Rather than to design this work, it naturally occurred from constantly working with mycelium.

The only addition to the piece is the ultra-mat black that covers the crater/vase-recipient. With this black hole, the curious texture of the mycelium is made even more visible, it is my way of framing it from the inside.

The mycelium (fungi 'roots') has grown to develop a leather-like skin. Now that it is dry, it is water repellent and can stay like this forever. But left in the dirt it would rapidly decay and go back to the natural cycle.

Mycelium is the secret network that connects the trees together.
Shinto Shrines are the unspoken bond that connects humans to the forest.

These sculpture reveal with a natural patina the work of time on the beliefs of humans.

One day, these sacred gates will maybe come back to nature, and disappear there.
